One of the eleven magical colleges at the University of Xyrneiros.
About the Department[edit | edit source]
One of the few Colleges at the University that doesn’t require any sort of magical aptitude to enroll in, the College of Artifice, Mathematics, and Material Sciences focuses mainly on teaching principles of engineering and the laws of physics to Xyrneiros students. All students in the Colleges of Illusion and Evocation are generally required to take at least one survey course through the department to better understand the scientific laws which govern their more artistic disciplines. Majors in the College of Artifice often specialize in the creation of constructs, automations, and more naturalistic technologies to improve the lives of non-magic users or replicate magical effects for non-mages.

Building homemade metal and wooden race carts—little more than glorified street luges--and racing them downhill on the flagstones towards the causeway in the springtime—an event known as the Xyrneiros Grand Prix. One advisee of each professor participates in the race down the Pathway of Knowing on the side of the island at breakneck speed, with the winner gaining possession of a small brass trophy to leave in their advisor’s lab for the next academic year. Woe betide any travelers trying to traverse the Pathway of Knowing during the Xyrneiros Grand Prix. Dr. Valenworth, head of the College of Restoration, has insisted on serving as referee for every recorded Xyrneiros Grand Prix.
