Oswald is a Choeru Paladin of the Order of the Dawnlight

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Oswald is a caramel colored Choeru, standing just below 4ft tall. He is a stocky build, accompanying his short stature, with golden-orange eyes.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Oswald tends to prefer being non-confrontational and kind in demeanor. He believes that conflict can be resolved through civil discourse when possible, and avoids being the first to rely on violence as a means to an end. If combat is unavoidable, Oswald becomes dependable and diligent in his duty, channeling his training as a soldier/hire-arm before joining the order of the Dawnlight.

History[edit | edit source]

Oswald and his family reside in Davenwood, a very small town on the outskirts near Ravel. Although how their ancestry made it to Davenwood has become lost knowledge, the family has resided peacefully there as grain farmers. Davenwood was mostly a pass through for travelers on the way to Ravel, and Oswald found his first employment as a bouncer for the local tavern, keeping travelers quarrels away from the townsfolk who preferred their quiet lifestyle. During a violent outburst, Oswald's abilities caught the eye of a paladin of the Dawnlight, who admired his courage and control when faced with conflict. This paladin, who Oswald later knew to be Orthin, recruited him as a squire, and trained as a soldier and diplomat, instilling in him the virtues of justice, compassion, and restraint.

Oswald never grew up as a religious devotee, but Orthin encouraged him to see how the ways of the Dawnlight, in parallel with their deity Oretisf, could imbue him with sacred power in handling foes, or divine shielding in the protection of others, when violence was forced upon him.

Oswald grew in both strength and merit, and eventually was granted the name "the Peacekeeper" for his ability to turn duels into dialogues. The order bestowed upon him the Halberd of Harmony, a sanctified halberd from the World Tree, which he brandishes with pride as a symbol of his journey.

Now, many years later, Oswald is a traveling emissary of the Peacekeepers, upholding their oath to show strength in restraint, and to help others in this world see that violence should be a last resort, not a first answer.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

During Oswald's training as a paladin, he focused more on preventing and redirecting damage, rather than healing damage after it had already been done. Fixating on trying to stop fights before they happened. He deemed that if he could intimated opponents through strength and will, they would become more malleable to peaceful discourse.

Oswald is not well versed in the magical arts outside of traditional paladin spell casting, but during a recent trip to the The Kaleidoscope, he unintentionally created "the Unweaving of Mortal Vestments". Although his original intent was to craft a spell that would make an enemy's armor more vulnerable in combat, he deems this spell a success in giving him the upper hand nonetheless.

Bolstering the Defences[edit | edit source]

After finally destroying Xilas LaCroix, Oswald reflects a little and comes to terms that there is some substantial evil in this world that he will continue to face. Although he held true to his oath, he realizes that this new enemy, this blowt, will require a much stronger defense than what he alone can provide.

"How could something take over such a significant part of the city so quickly?"

He ponders, as he walks through the streets of Ravel.

"Surely, this foe must be stronger than I can imagine... and we were lucky to survive our encounter with just 1 of these creatures..."

"And what if they continue to spread?"

Oswald's thoughts travel back to Davenwood, his home town, and his family and friends who still live there, he starts to imagine these blowt swarming out into the countryside, but pushes the thought out of mind for it being too dark and sad to entertain.

As he ponders what to do next, he finds himself at the doorstep of a familiar place, the C3. Reflecting back upon the kindness and protection this bastion provided him in his time of need, he finds a renewed sense of resolve. "This will be where our defenses will stand against the blowt" he thinks to himself. "I shall repay the protection this bastion showed me, and defend against these new aggressors that have attacked the city" As he walks in the doors of C3, he runs into a familiar face... Tessa Night, working on repairing the storehouse of the bastion. Oswald picks up a wooden board near him, and gets to work.
