In learning how to properly dispel magic, students of the College of Abjuration are taught about the fundamentals of spellcasting itself and how to disrupt them. How can a foe voice a powerful spell when their opponent can disrupt the fundamental language of their spellcasting? How can they formulate an effective ward in hand-to-hand combat when their opponent understands the magical pressure points, to render their limbs temporarily unresponsive? The college’s abjuration mages draw from disciplines of academia that prepare them for dispelling the most common means of spellcasting.

Traditions Among Majors[edit | edit source]
For a campus with a tradition of friendly pranks amongst the various Colleges, Abjuration mages are uniquely prepared for all manor of mischief. The primary target of their ire is often the College of Enchantment, with whom they have a longstanding friendly rivalry. It is not an uncommon practice for prank wars to start between the two departments, with Abjuration majors leaving oddly shaped anti-magic circles on the floors of practice rooms on the outer ring favored by Enchantment majors, and for Enchantment mages to enchant the temperature of Abjuration classrooms to be five degrees hotter or colder than normal during summer and winter respectively.
However, Abjuration Mages’ “nuclear option” in these friendly conflicts is always disrupting the plumbing glyphs of disliked professors or peers. A rare, but re-occurring trend, and generally the end of any inter-departmental razzing.
