They first appeared in Episode 17: The Storm of Songs, and are played by Amia.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Clematis Starmello is a 4'11" 110lbs olive-skinned sparrowman, though they don't realize it and think they are a fairy. They have pale pink eyes and darker pink hair to match, styled in a side-shave over their right shoulder. Clem does not have any scars or tattoos, but they do have vitiligo. Additionally, they have a set of waxy, malformed fairy wings that often sits beneath their clothes.

They often wear a form-fitting tank top with a off-shoulder peasant top over it, and flowy green pants with two small cuts made in the hips. They have a belt made of rope, where a pair of pilot goggles hang from, and they also have a small necklace with a dark pink bauble. Additionally, they wear a backpack that they made themselves, made to look like a pair of fairy wings, with the main exoskeleton segment of the wings holding their supplies. When adventuring, they also have a set of metal chestplate armor that they wear.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Clem prefers nothing more than a calm reading experience, trying to rationally piece together bits and pieces of things until it makes sense in the grand scheme of things. They take this approach on the world, waiting calmly for the pieces to fall into place in order for them to take action. This laid-back demeanor, combined with their inexplicable old age, creates an agreeable persona that tries to get along with most anyone they meet.

History[edit | edit source]

Clem currently lives in the Fey Oasis, and was born and raised there as well. As a child, they idolized Queen Cherise due to her chaotic disposition on progress and her ability to spin power out of very little, a path that inspired them to take up magic. They started by training themselves by crafting small objects with magical qualities, and when their blooming talents were picked up, Clem began to pursue it further, eventually getting a two-year degree from The Safeguard School of Abjuration and going on to get a Master's Degree from Deroleux's Select Conservatory of the Arcane as a Mana Scholar, mages tasked with researching and protecting the world from the foundations of magical power (weave, ley lines, star arches, snarls, so on and so forth. They hoped that this would land them a job in the Queen's Court, but dreams fell through, and now Clem lives an incredibly stagnant life as a courier throughout the Court. Wanting a change and the chance to test out 150 years of pent-up training, loss, triumph, and chaos, they saw an ad calling for adventurers to clear out the Storm of Songs, and they signed up in a heartbeat.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Clem is known for acting proactively instead of reactively. Though their Snap-Casting is what almost caused them to drop out of school, Clem excels at preparing themselves and allies for things that come in the future, and has woven planning into the very essence of their combat style. Clem's specialty is being able to minimize the amount of Weave used in their protective spells, allowing the surplus to be fueled into a shield that can protect themselves and allies. Their sense of planning goes so deep that this ward is already almost fully charged whenever they set out on an adventure, due to a myriad of protective spells used to dissuade intruders from entering their tower.

Clem is also not fully useless without magic. Though they recently sold all of their physical weapons to make ends meet, Clem is extensively trained in crossbows and has fought with them often. They hope to someday get a custom, magical crossbow of their own.

The Story So Far[edit | edit source]

Clem joined Ki'Lana, Kosuna, Verina, Isadora, and Senku in Episode 17: The Storm of Songs on an adventure to break through the Song of Storms in order to take on two dragons that were fighting in the horizon. Excited for the new opportunity, Clem spent the better part of the week finding spells to prepare, and though they slipped up in the face of physical labor, they had a chance to show off the protective weaves that they had mastered. However, when they finally went out to shore, the sirens were able to take adventure of Clem's lack of wisdom, charming them and forcing them to turn against the party. Eventually they were defeated, and though no one died, they feel worse for wear, for being forced to work so hard against their allies and a sick sense of enjoyment in the feeling of being charmed.

Overnight, they discussed their feelings with Ziri, who encouraged them to find their inner Draconic Roar. When Clem expressed confusion at the matter, Ziri offered to duel them, which Clem accepted. Though a combination of Banishment and Symbol of Despair was able to give Clem the legal victory, Ziri ran off in a state of utter despair, and Clem collapsed into sleep with untreated wounds that soon became infected. When the two reunited, Clem was healed by Dizzy, and the two discussed their pasts, Ziri sharing the origin of the Cabal while Clem's lackluster wings were put on full display. The two became close friends since, and Clem took Dizzy on as their apprentice due to Dizzy's interest in the Weave.

Clem then joined Mitzusune, Larkspur, Ki'Lana, Senku, Verina, Rook, and Alara in Episode 18: Kaiju in the Coral on a mission to take down and restore two of the members of Queen Cherise's Court, who had been turned into angry, kaiju floral dragons. However, their mission was first halted when envoys of the Court of Decay began burning the village they were staying in overnight, threatening the lives of the triton villagers living there. With a combination of Olara's ability to create rain and Clem's ability to put out magical fires, all of the villagers were saved, and the enemies were quickly dispatched in the process. The crew set out on boat to take down the dragons, where Larkspur's combat prowess was put on true display, restoring them quickly. Clem returned to Sakura's Sanctuary, and though Rook continues to be incredibly off-putting both in speech and mannerism, Clem wants to get closer to them, agreeing to make a deal where Clem would fabricate any scrap metal Rook brought them into armor.

Clem formed quite a trio between them, Senku, and Rook while having tea together, each of them respectively talking in great lengths about the details of their own lives. During the conversation, Clem again aired out grievances of not knowing much about their family heritage, and being plagued by the set of the mal-formed wings on the back of their body. The idea was brought up that Clem could ask their mother if they were truly full fairy by Senku, seeing a lot of similarities between them as a Shadar-Kai. Clem revealed that their mother was dead, but realized that, with Rook, that it wasn't really an obstacle. The three teleported to Clem's tower (revealed to simply be a small, two-story bungalow) in the Fey Oasis, and then took the portal to the Material Plane to visit Clem's grave. Flooded by emotion and underestimating how opportunist the spirit of Rora Starmello would be, Clem squandered many of their questions, only learning that they were half-elf and half-fairy. With their resolve renewed, Clem vowed that they would fight to find their father some day and make them proud, even if he couldn't be.

Clem planned to adventure forth with Senku, Rook, Olara, Ziri, Isidora, and Verina in Episode 19: Completion of the Court in order to take down the final court member, however, tragedy struck right before they set out. Clem made a deal with Olara, attempting to alleviate their struggles and to get them in fighting shape for the mission by enjoying some time playing music. However, music dredged up some old memories, and when it was discovered that music is incredibly intertwined with Olara's grief, Clem tricked Olara into a fey pact to (consensually) take half of their grief. Underestimating the effect it would have on their body, Olara forced Clem to finish the Grief Tea as requested, and Clematis tried to sleep off the undue effects of the brew. They feel horrible for failing to deliver on their duty, but are also secretly very thankful and smitten that Olara saved them a plate of food from the Feast of Heroes.

Clem is beginning to feel the limits of their adventurers, and though it pains them, they spent Episodes 20-23 inside their own Sanctum, making sure that the seals remain so that the other party members have a safe place to return to. However, their work has not gone fully unsupportive. In a romantic gesture, Clem gifted Olara a bouquet of flowers wrapped in Shield scrolls, and has also been making arrangements to spread their protective magic over the course of the three groups for Episode 24. All that's left is to wait.
