College of Clerical Studies, Religion, and Philosophy

Type Magical College
Location University of Xyrneiros, Osugbo

One of the eleven magical colleges at the University of Xyrneiros in Osugbo

About the Department[edit | edit source]

A newer division which emerged following the fall of Champerty, the College of Clerical Studies represented a first in the region—devoting significant attention and study to a school of magic which had been previously prohibited by the Mages of Champerty. Understandably, this deepened existing academic rivalries with other regional institutions, as they found the magic utilized by clerics to be “less serious” than other arcane arts. However, the College was initially one of the most popular programs at the university. In recent years, though, the college appears to have suffered from too quick of an expansion. While Xyrneiros remains a big regional name for aspiring clerics, the foundation of similar departments at Corpsus Collosum and Drȳcræft Drīfan has cut into enrollment. Additionally, those students particularly passionate at seeking out adept Cerical training frequently seek out more specialized monasteries in other regions of Quelmar, rather than getting a degree from a magical University—albeit one with a rather large archive of knowledge on the subject.

Traditions Among Majors[edit | edit source]

Skinny-dipping in Pelor’s Pond at the end of each semester, regularly “borrowing” one of the incense censers from the chapels to smoke a mix of hallucinogenic roots and weeds in an on-campus residence. It is rumored by non-majors that Dr. Vulkroat may occasionally attend these sessions, though a Clerical Studies major experiencing hallucinations for the first time imagining and Dr. Vulkroat in the room with them seems just as likely.
