The River Styx connects the lower planes of [[Pandemonium, [[the Abyss]], [[Carceri]], [[Hades]], [[Gehenna]], [[The Ten Hells]], and [[Acheron]], as well as a large number of smaller fiendish demiplanes. The River Styx is a swift and dangerous river that cannot be forded with conventional water craft. At first glance, the water on the surface appears to be moving slow and sluggishly like molasses, but the current underneath is strong enough to pull almost any creature to the bottom. The water itself looks like a disgusting concoction of blood, grease, and oil, with a putrid odor to match. Those who come into contact with the water must make a save or suffer complete amnesia and effects similar to the feeblemind spell. Those who succeed the save recover from the waters effects after 8 hours, and those who fail suffer from it permanently |

The river is the domain of the ferryman [[Charon]] who holds absolute power over the styx. When an evil soul dies in the material plane, they find themselves on the banks of the Styx and must either pay Charon for safe passage, or ford the waters themselves. Many fiends stalk the shores of the Styx, snatching up any souls lost to the river to use for their own means. [{Devil|Devils]] in the Ten Hells have build large rigs over the Styx to catch these lost and swept away souls en mass so that they may turn them into new devils. |
