Rhogar Dreel is a player character in the Bedlam in the Badlands Community Campaign. They are a White Dragonborn Rune Knight Fighter
Physical Appearance
Rhogar Dreel is a muscular White Dragonborn, over seven feet in height. His scales are marked with deep scarring especially up along his back from his time as a soldier and as a slave to The Shend. He wears patchwork armor made up from scavenged metals and the armors of fallen Hobgoglin warriors and wields a large battleax in battle. Inscribed across his armor are giant runes which he uses to enhance his abilities. After years in the harsh desert, his eyes have turned a deep red.
Personality
Rhogar is rough around the edges but ultimately a hopeful soul. His lack of a formal education and his struggles with the Common language make social situations awkward, yet he attempts to persist anyway. Rhogar will do whatever it takes to protect his friends, yet is still burdened by the societal pressures that he was raised under in Swikedom. Having survived slavery and the worst of the desert, Rhogar knows how truly terrible things can get and will fight to make things better. But when he picks up his axe, he often releases himself to his inner beast, fighting in a brutal and almost animalistic manner. Rhogar’s greatest struggle is his paralyzing fear of the dark. After his experiences in the Shend slave camp and with the creature in the night, Rhogar has become deathly afraid of the dark. One of Rhogar's greatest secrets is that he one day wishes to see a real life dragon, even if that may be impossible.
History
Rhogar Dreel was born to a poor white dragonborn clan in the city of Zar’Thuun, in the dragonkin kingdom of Swikedom. In Swikedom’s caste system, White Dragonborn were looked down upon, only believed to be useful for their perceived strength and brutality, and so from a young age Rhogar was entered into warrior training. Soon after, Rhogar’s younger sister was born and it was discovered that she possessed the potential for draconic sorcery. Rhogar’s sister was taken away by the Arcath, Swikedom’s sorcerer caste, and his family’s reputation in Zar’Thuun grew, for many believed that having a sorcerer born into your clan was a sign from the gods.
This change in status caught the eye of House Rhazmyr, a clan of red dragonborn who ruled over Zar’Thuun and were one of Swikedom’s seven ruling houses. Rhogar, even though he was barely an adult, was chosen to be the personal envoy and bodyguard for Lady Vrnala, a young noblewoman of the house. Vrnala possessed the abilities of a draconic sorcerer and was seen by her house as one of many potential candidates for one day taking control of the house. For years Rhogar served Lady Vrnala faithfully and even developed feelings for her, though he never knew if these feelings were reciprocated.
As time passed, Lady Vrnala grew in influence within House Rhazmyr. But one day she was given a test to prove her dedication to her house and her caste: to discard Rhogar, her bodyguard and closest companion. Rhogar did not get to see her reaction nor her decision, for the next thing he knew he was being taken away. Rhogar had been ordered to be executed as his insider knowledge of House Rhazmyr could prove valuable to the other ruling houses, but Rhogar’s would be executors instead decided to make some quick coin by selling him to The Shend instead, a syndicate of hobgoblin slavers.
For three years Rhogar would suffer under the lash of his new Shend masters who forced him to perform hard labor and compete in underground fighting pits in the harsh climate of the desert. During his time as a slave, Rhogar grew close to a fellow slave, an elderly Goliath man named Brakkus. To help Rhogar survive, Brakkus taught Rhogar the magic of giant runes and became a pseudo father figure to Rhogar.
But even while Rhogar suffered during the days, he preferred it to the nights. When the night was at its darkest and when no moon showed in the sky, something would enter the hobgoblin’s camp. Cloaked in night, something wholly inhuman, yet in the guise of a man, would silently enter into the Shend camp and prey on the weakest slave there. The slaves called it The Pilgrim of Pteris. For months this creature preyed on the camp, until one night, it came for Brakkus. Rhogar attempted to save his greatest friend and lashed out at the creature, but the moment Rhogar laid a hand on it, he blacked out.
Rhogar woke up the next morning covered in blood and in the embers of the Shend’s camp. His hobgoblin slavers were either dead or had run into the desert, and there was no sign of Brakkus. Alone and afraid, Rhogar wandered through the desert badlands, traveling both day and night. For whenever the sun set, Rhogar felt that he was not the only being in the desert. After days of traveling, he was picked up by members of the Federation who took him to Mr. Garret, a fellow dragonborn. Seeing Rhogar’s potential usefulness, Mr. Garret gave Rhogar a job working for him which Rhogar with no other choice accepted.
Languages
Rhogar Dreel is fluent in Draconic as his first language. He would learn Common later in life during his time with Lady Vrnala, but would continually struggle with the language, his speech often reverting back to Draconic. During his time as a slave of the Shend, he learned the art of giant runes and learned the ability to read the giant language, though was never confident enough to fully speak it. During this time he also learned a few words in goblin from his Hobgoblin captors.
Relationships
Vrnala Rhazmyr

Lady Vrnala Rhazmyr is a striking young red dragonborn noblewoman with gleaming crimson scales, sharp amber eyes, and polished horns. Always impeccably dressed in the embroidered finery of House Rhazmyr, she carries herself with confidence and poise. Vrnala is ambitious to her core, clever, driven, and fiercely proud of her bloodline. She believes she is destined to become the next Vaero'Skarth, and she works tirelessly to earn that title, not through brute force but through calculated charm, her draconic sorcery, and a deep understanding of Swikedom politics. While bold and passionate, she does her best to maintain her fiery temper which during times of great strength can flare up in flaming fury. She will do anything to get what she wants, but knows that rivals lurk around every corner.
Rhogar was assigned as Lady Vrnala's personal bodyguard when both were barley just of age. He accompanied her to all her tutoring, training, meetings, Shehad gatherings, and more. Wherever she was, Rhogar was not far behind. Over time, Rhogar began to develop feelings for Lady Vrnala and became deeply protective of her, even saving her from a few assassination attempts. While Lady Vrnala wasn't exactly openly affectionate or kind to Rhogar, she treated him better then any other Shehad or member of a higher caste had ever before. By her side, Rhogar was privy to information and events that few ever White Dragonborn in Swikedom had ever been before.
The last Rhogar saw Vrnala, she was called to a meeting with the current ruling Vaero'Skarth of House Rhazmyr. From what Rhogar later learned, lady Vrnala was given a choice. In order to prove her devotion to House Rhazmyr and to rise as a contender to be the next Vaero'Skarth, she was to sacrifice something close to her: her bodyguard. Rhogar never saw or heard how she responded.

Brakkus
Brakkus was an elderly goliath with skin like weathered stone, etched with faded runes that pulse faintly when he speaks. His once-imposing frame was bent with age, but his presence still commanded quiet respect, even from his evil masters. Draped in thick furs and old rags, he leaned on a twisted staff made of ancient wood. A victim of the brutal Shend slavers, Brakkus endured years in chains, but never allowed cruelty to define him. Instead, he became a protector to the younger slaves, using his strength and wisdom to shield them from the worst of their captors.
When Rhogar was enslaved by the Shend, he was naive to the world and so Brakkus took Rhogar under his wing. Brakkus helped Rhogar get through the worst of times and even became a father figure for Rhogar. During their time as slaves, Brakkus taught Rhogar the ancient magic of the Goliath people, giant runes. Even then Rhogar had had a family and a clan back in Swikedom, due to the nature of his caste and upbringing, he was never close to them. Brakkus felt like the first family Rhogar ever had. But in their last months together, Brakkus' age began to weigh on him more and more, until the Pilgrim of Pteris came to take him. Rhogar would have done anything to save Brakkus, but is wasn't enough.
The Pilgrim of Pteris

The Pilgrim of Pteris is the monster that haunts Rhogar's every dream and is the subject of his every waking nightmare. A silhouette of shadow in the night, the Pilgrim travels alone through the desert, and poor be whoever encounters them alone. While Rhogar was a slave of the Shend, it would stalk the slave camp at night, taking whoever was the weakest. Without a sound it would enter the camp, a terrified scream would be heard from the victim, and both would be gone when the sun rose. The night it came for Brakkus, Rhogar fought like a rabid animal to save his friend. With ease it dodge each of Rhogar's strikes and the moment Rhogar laid a hand on the Pilgrim, Rhogar blacked out. Rhogar woke up int eh embers of the camp, both BRakkus and the Pilgrim gone. Rhogar fears the Pilgrim more then anything, and always feels like it may be watching him from the dark.
