Yeenoghu is a Demon Lord hailing from the Abyss and is the forefather of Gnolls. He is a rival of the Demon Lords Demogorgon and Orcus, all vying for the title of Prince of Demons.
He is the primary antagonist of the D&D 5e mini campaign Quelmar PHANTOMS.
Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]
Yeenoghu is a towering humanoid hyena monster, looking like an exaggerated Gnoll, with blood red eyes, sharp fangs, and a maddening cackle. He wears ancient demonic armor stolen from other demons and wields a cursed flail.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Yeenoghu is cruel in sadistic, not just savoring the skill, but relishing in the bloodshed and savagery. He craves battle and for the opportunity to tear his foes limb from limb. He seeks to infect the Material Plane with his bloodlust, his influence seeping into the mind of warmongers and emperors alike pushing them to engage in bloody and violent wars.
Yeenoghu has a particular fascination with the Troverth empire, loving their desire for war and expansion, and egging them on when he can.
History[edit | edit source]
Long ago, Yeenoghu created the first Gnolls which were born out of Hyenas who fed on those he slew in battle. These Gnolls shared in his bloodlust and became his most loyal servants.
Many years later in the early PR era, Yeenoghu oversaw a cult that operated out of an underground temple within the nation of Troverth. The empire of Troverth eventually caught wind of the cult and quickly moved to exterminate it, executing all of the cultists and building their new capital city of Quixing on the hill above the temple. But this was not a loss for Yeenoghu, as it simply gave him new people to corrupt. From carvings in the temple, the Troverthians learned the magic of demon binding, magic that tied directly back to Yeenoghu. Using this fact, Yeenoghu was slowly able to grow his influence beneath Quixing and into the empire as a whole, secretly encouraging the people of Troverth to continue engaging in war.
His influence only grew when the Troverth Prince Feng Yuhan foolishly attempted to summon and bind Yeenoghu to use as a weapon during the First Realm War, an operation called Project Overlord. Yeenoghu was successfully summoned and he pretended to be bound so he could further corrupt Troverth.
Yeenoghu eventually found his opportunity in Project Dominion, an arcane engine designed to pacify mortals. While the engine's creator, Mae Tadako, hoped to use it to end all wars, Yeenoghu saw it was a way to turn all of Quelmar into helpless sheep for his Gnolls and demons to massacre. He would subtly influence the project and made it so Project Dominion would affect all creatures except demons. his plan would be foiled though when heroes from the city of the Delvin infiltrated Quixing and blew up the weapon and the city, sending Yeenoghu back to the Abyss.
After getting banished back into the Abyss, his plan to invade Quelmar with demons would be hijacked by his rival the Demogorgon who would use the foundation set by Yeenoghu to mastermind the Demonic Infiltration.
During the Demonic Infiltration Yeenoghu would return to Quelmar, this time in Amusa, and would amass an army of Gnolls to conquor the continent. But his plans would once again be foiled, this time by the demoness Mother who banished Yeenoghu back into the Abyss again and took command over his Gnoll armies
