Pact of the Gourmand Warlock

Pact of the Gourmand Warlock
Class Warlock
Subclass Pact of the Gourmand

Pact of the Gourmand Warlocks are chefs who have bartered their souls to otherworldly patrons in exchange for transcendent culinary mastery. Their magic infuses food with wild and powerful effects, turning every meal into a weapon, shield, or blessing for their allies. Equal parts entertainer and enchanter, they wield spatulas like wands and serve dishes so divine they can change the course of battle.

Gourmand Patron[edit | edit source]

Gourmand warlock patrons are cosmic connoisseurs, entities who hunger not for power or souls alone, but for the perfect taste, and they are willing to trade forbidden culinary secrets to mortals who will pursue that perfection on their behalf. Some are decadent archfiends who preside over infernal banquets, demanding offerings of rare and dangerous ingredients; others are ancient evils long forgotten who embody the endless hungers, or elemental monarchs from the primordial planes who embody the ingredients of food. These patrons view their warlocks as both apprentices and living tasting spoons, sending them across the planes to collect impossible flavors, harvest meat from legendary beasts, and test new recipes that push the boundaries of mortal biology.

Notable Gourmand Patrons[edit | edit source]

  • Azzathol, the Ever Hungering, an elder evil from beyond the planes who wishes to devour all of reality, as long as it tastes good.
  • The Lord of Salt, an elemental monarch of the Salt Planes within the Elemental Plane of Earth.
  • Granny Sweetums, an ancient and sweet hag who lives in a house made of candy and gingerbread.
  • Velvatuss the Red, a dragon made of cake who searches for bakers who he can teach his baking secrets to.

Food Dragons[edit | edit source]

Food dragons are legendary, gluttonous drakes made of food and other edible delicacies. These rare and whimsical creatures roam the hidden lands of the Quelmar, feasting on magical ingredients and growing ever more flavorful with age. Among Gourmand warlocks, the greatest and most perilous ambition is to hunt and prepare a meal from a food dragon, for to do so is said to produce a dish so exquisite it could impress even their patron and elevate the chef to immortal culinary fame.

Some of the first Food Dragons can be traced back to Floral Dragons, plant-like creatures from the Feywild whose bodies were composed of flowers. From these floral dragons emerged Fruit Dragons, the first food dragons. As years went on more food dragons came about, from bread dragons, to sushi dragons, and even cake dragons.

When Tiamat returned to the realm and waged the War of Many Names against Quelmar, these food dragons did not escape her notice. Seeing them as a fascinating oddity, she made sure to have her servants tend to Food Dragon nests and dens when they could, and would even sneak particularly dangerous food dragons like Chilli Pepper Dragons into high end kitchens in populated cities so that the food dragon could go on a rampage, causing as much damage as possible. Some of the first heroes to stand against these ravenous food dragons would turn out to be Pact of the Gourmand Warlocks, eager to turn these dragons into their cooking masterpieces.
