Dr Burdock (he/him) is a harengon necromancer currently adventuring in The Fantasial Freeze.
Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]
Dr. Burdock is a young-adult harengon man. He stands about five feet tall, with a lean and lanky frame. His fur is a mottled, sandy tan, except for his ears, hands, and feet, which are uniformly jet black. His angular build, fur coloration, and large yellow eyes give him an appearance more akin to wild desert hares than to the domestic rabbits harengon often resemble.
He wears a white robe trimmed in red, with mismatched and brightly colorful clothes beneath, and carries a staff whose top end he keeps wrapped in thick cloth. He wears no armor. He is typically prone to staring with great intensity at whatever he is looking at.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Dr. Burdock has an intense if not obsessive love of life and experience of all kinds, and approaches even dangerous situations with an enthusiasm bordering on mania. He has a deep, abiding curiosity about the world and its people, and prizes the pursuit of knowledge highly, especially in relation to the subjects of life and death.
He is not typically violent, but despite his vocation as a healer, when actively threatened he will often leap into battle with reckless abandon, chasing the rush of adrenaline and seeking a supply of new "patients." He is deeply driven to healing and saving lives, though, and will generally prioritize that above all else, his own safety included. His bedside manner is friendly but deeply unsettling.
Dr. Burdock insists on being called "Doctor" at all times, and will not willingly reveal any part of his actual name for any reason.
History[edit | edit source]
Dr. Burdock (formerly Dr. Dandelion, Dr. Crabapple, Dr. Barley, and very briefly Dr. That-Little-Purple-Flower-Over-There) is an itinerant healer, thrill-seeker, and student of the necromantic arts.
As a boy he was apprenticed in a healer's guild; already drawn to a life of travel and adventure but far too frail to be a bold conquering hero, the healer's art seemed like a promising way to make a living anywhere the road took him. It wasn't long before he discovered the guild's extensive library, and by happenstance found reference in some of the dustier tomes to the use of necromantic magic for the repair of living bodies. He had to know more, and his burgeoning interest grew into an obsession as a talent for magic began to manifest in the boy. He soon began to spend a much greater amount of time studying cadavers than the other apprentices, and though his skill as a healer grew, so did the whispers about what the young harengon was up to.
The study of death had a profound effect on him, unexpectedly infusing the already-exciteable boy with an overwhelming joie de vivre as he delved into the twining mysteries of life and death and all the wonderous experiences both had to offer. The guild masters grew ever more concerned, and when the boy started trying to directly transfer life energy between his patients with necromantic magic, they threw him out right away. Disappointed with the guild's lack of imagination and resolve in the preservation of life, the now ex-apprentice began thinking of his expulsion as his "graduation" and claimed the title of "Doctor" as his by right.
Since then, Dr. Burdock has plied his trade all across Osugbo under a wide variety of names, seeking new patients, new insights, and new experiences. A talented healer is always a welcome arrival in town, enough for most to overlook a bit of eccentricity and a penchant for excessive partying, but once spirits of the dead start making appearances during treatments, it's never long before the torches and pitchforks start coming out and it's time for the good doctor to be on his way.
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
Dr. Burdock is an accomplished magic user, focusing on movement and manipulation of life within and between people, as well as a skilled healer in the more traditional sense.
Attacks and Weapons [edit | edit source]
The only weapon Dr. Burdock carries is his wrapped staff, but fights with it tend to be bloodier than one might expect...
